This project was created during my time as a graphic designer for a local chapter of Sunrise Movement.
Duration: 1 evening
Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator
Project Overview
A local candidate for city council was a big supporter of climate legislation to create a greener city. Additionally, if elected, they would have been the first nonbinary person of color elected to public office in the entire United States. As a designer for my local Sunrise Movement chapter, I was asked to design a poster for one of her events.
Project Role
I was the sole designer of this project. I worked with members of the Sameera Rajwade campaign to understand what information needed to be displayed on the poster.
Understanding & Executing
To begin the project, I first needed to know what information needed to be on the poster and what was the most important.
After talking with some members of the campaign and some other board members of my local Sunrise Movement chapter, I learned I needed to add what the event was, the date, the candidate name, and a call to action, in order of descending importance.
I added this information in varying fonts and font sizes in order to improve readability and make certain information pop.
From an artistic standpoint, I added the two hills to represent the city of San Ramon's famous two peaks. The rising sun represents the Sunrise Movement, and its rays help guide the viewer's eyes down the poster to different information.
